Today is the day where we pause and remember with a grateful heart those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. As I though about Memorial Day today, I thought I would do a little research on historical facts. According to Wikipedia, the first memorial day was really called Decoration Day and was first enacted to honor Union soldiers from the American Civil War. It was later extended after World War I to honor all American soldiers who died in all wars. In 1971, the United States Congress officially moved the observance of this day to the last Monday of May and named it Memorial Day. This day also traditionally marks the unofficial beginning of Summer.
